The Heritage Institute of Technology was established in 2001 under the aegis of Kalyan Bharti Trust. The trust aims to promote technical education and research in the field of engineering and technology.
HIT is affiliated with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and has received accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
